OK, That worked. I think the tiny URL may have been down for maintenance or something?? Most of these sites do not post warnings that they are going to do something and sometimes it is because they crashed and it is responsive not planned. Your article was terrific. I think a problem we have is tradition. People understand TV advertising and magazine/newspaper advertising but not Internet advertising.

#1 let me say that even when nobody was buying cars, GM was still running ads on TV that are very expensive. I remember saying to a friend: "If they are not selling cars why do they keep building them?"

#2 Most people are from the old school that you need face time to market. I actually had someone on www.xing.com, a social platform in Germany like LinkedIN, tell me they did not make direct connections with people they did not meet personally. I about fell out of my chair. I thought that was the whole idea of the Internet???

#3 It seems that nobody wants to invest any effort anymore. I actually dumped a partner I had in India because he had always been used to having 2 or 3 secretaries to do all the administrative work for him and he kept treating me like I was one of them. We used my address and phone number in USA because that was a big status symbol in India but all he wanted to do was work on his projects. I would send him leads and he would not follow up. I ended it when he disappeared for a week with no email, phone call, etc. and everyone was contacting me and I had no answers. To this day I do not think he understood what was wrong with that attitude.

#4 It appears that with the introduction of the microwave oven,Xerox, & McDonalds everyone expects instant results. Let me tell you that when the Google Guys were in college and came up with the algorithms ( mathematical formulas) that became the search engine Google they had no idea what they had at first nor what the monitary value was. They decided it would work as a marketing tool and they would charge the companies on the Internet $1 each time someone used Google to access the company's web site. Soon they had people complaining that they were not getting the sales to justify that expense. Google replied all they could do was produce the traffic it was up to the company to make the product or service attractive!!!

So my overall comment on your article is that you are someone that every small and medium company should connect with because you seriously understand how everything works. The older the person is the harder it is for them to accept technology. Why don't you connect with me at www.villagedirect.org and take your message to the World.

Deborah,

There are still so many people who think social media and social networking is a fad, a waste of time or just don't get it. First, social networking is not new its been around since the 80's back then it was called bulletin boards. It may be called something else but its not going anywhere. I challenge the "Nay Sayers" to note how many time Twitter and/or Facebook are mentioned as they go about their day. Once they do the math it might help them realize they need to jump on the Social Media Bandwagon.

The big companies get it and recognizes the value. The even have TV ads around Twitter and Facebook to drive more traffic to their social media networks which ultimately boost sales.

Entrepreneurs, Solopreneurs and small businesses are missing a golden opportunity to market their products and services on the same level as the larger companies. During my Twitter For Business Workshop I teach business how to build their audience, increase traffic to their website and broadcast their message to their current and future customers. I am so passionate about this I offer an " everybody get's it guarantee" because I truly want them to succeed by taking FULL advantage of Twitter and other social media tools.
