Wedding Venue | Sat Jun 26

I just sent this blast:

Hi All,

A great friend of mine is getting married on Jun 26, do you have any suggestions for inexpensive venues (including hall rentals) in the Columbia/Linthicum/Elkridge area. She isn’t looking for a sit down dinner and isn’t looking for a wedding planner.

Thanks for your input!

The Elkridge Firehall is a cheaper way to go.  It looks nice with some decorations up too.  She can call Kristen Lehr at 410-913-5520, if she is interested.

Oh and remember I do have things for FUN bachlorette parties!!

I think approx number of people will help narrow it down.

That said, I don't know the cost of the place but I love Ten Oaks Ball Room. Savage Mill, The Mansion and the Great Room are nice. Completely different venue could be the place Julia runs, Woodfield Suites?? Again, room size and budget will help.

The request is vague as you do not mention how many guests, if she is just looking for a reception hall or a place to conduct the wedding as well, will she have a cocktail hour, will she need a place to change, is the wedding formal, semi-formal, casual?  Also, how does she define inexpensive under $1,000, between $1,000-$3,000 or under $5,000? So without knowing more I suggest she looks into the Columbia Villages each of which has its own hall http://www.columbiavillages.org/index.html and I'd personally recommend Historic Oakland Manor http://www.historic-oakland.com/weddings tell her to ask for Ellen and please mention that Jennifer Garcia referred her.

I just got married this summer so if she needs advice for vendors such as wedding officiant, photographer, catering, etc.  tell her to contact me.

My wife and I were looking to save $ when we were married in 2004. We had our reception in my sister's backyard and it was great. We were really blessed with the weather. We rented outdoor furniture, brought in a small P.A., and we catered barbecue and everyone loved it. If there's a backyard your friend can use, that's an idea.

How many people?  What is the budget - actual or ballpark?

I am not sure of the price but the waverly mansion is a great place. I have catered several weddings there and also attended one, all were great. I believe it can accomodate between 40- inside and up to 150 inside and out. Call howard county for more info.

I do not know of a wedding planner but provide Photography services.  I helpe shoot a wedding at Woodlawn Manor, 16501 Norwood Road, Sandy Spring, MD 20860.  It is a nice outdoor location. http://www.facebook.com/friends/?ref=tn#/album.php?aid=2038535&id=1411852292

Hi, Julia - Everyone has a different definition of inexpensive, but she may want to check out The Howard County Conservancy.

She could check out the Elkridge Furnace Inn...not sure of their prices but you get the space and the food from the same vendor...they have a lovel outside area with a tent.

This may be a bit too far north but the Towson Dance Studio is inexpensive, very beautiful and elegant and has seating for about 80 in storage.  It is actually located in Timonium on Deereco Rd at the intersection with Greenspring.  If that is of interest I can provide the phone number for the studio and she can tell Barbara that Kiona told her to call adn she will be treated very well I'm sure!

Kiona

She could check out Homewood Suites in Columbia. Their rooms

to rent are very reasonable. You can bring your own food in or

use any caterer. I can get you the phone number, if she needs it.

If it is local to the area here are some suggestions:

For an adventureous wedding - Terrapins Adventure...yes they do weddings...talk to Jeryl or Matt Baker tell them I sent you...they are great...they work with Savage Mills too so you could have the room too..

Homewood Suites - Julia Mattis...be sure to tell her I sent you we have used her room on several occasions.

You can also rent the room at Enviro Center if they are into being Green/Recycling etc. Stan Sersen is the owner there

Barry Paige is a great photographer and priced great...I can give you his name...friend of mine

Also Gia - Confettis in Towson...great room there

I don't know why Julia's place Homewood Suites came out of my head as Woodfield. It looks like there are a lot of places but the number of attendees, budget and style (formal to cas) is still the question. I was at Confetti's mentioned above last week and if it is not too far it is easier to find than I thought it would be. Hope it works out.

Thanks everyone! Keep the ideas coming. Lots of members have been suggesting: Amherst House which I will try, too.

Thanks!

HI Julia,

I am a Wedding Coordinator and my company caters to the budget conscious couple. A little more detail would be very helpful. We have recommendations for the whole wedding experience (i.e. photographer, venue, dj, caterer, etc.). If we can be of any help please email me at planning@petiteelegance.com.

Hi, Julia, Chef Richard here:

I suggest the Hilton Homewood Suites in Columbia.  Contact Julia Mattis, I think you know her.  Great room, fireplace, etc, land very reasonable on weekends.  Contact Sandy Bearden for recommendation as well.

Also, there is a new venue on Main Street in Ellicott City.  Also a nice place, catering to the budget conscious.  They have facility only, but can accommodate caterers and probably up to 100 guests.  Chris Sikora (Sweet Bakery) across the street can do the 'sweets' portion of the catering.  I will have direct contact information for you shortly.

Also, you can visit Eventures.us.com and select among the services there...

Warm regards,  Richard Douville

I agree with the comments that the info is too vague for us to be really helpful.  That said, no one has mentioned The Manor House which is part of Savage Mill; you get the space and the caterer (Putting on the Ritz) in one package.  Less expensive options would be the American Legion Hall in Laurel (not Columbia, I know, but so close) and the Barn in Columbia.  Montpelier Mansion also books weddings and you can bring in your own caterer.  George Washington really did sleep there!  For outdoors, try Patapsco Female Institute in Ellicott City, bring in your own caterer.

If any in the wedding party need gowns made or altered, please call me.   I also do ring pillows, garters and more.

Helo Juile,  " The Other Barn " in Columbia -- did an outside wedding and inside reception -- you can have your own caterers. Also Homewood Suites in Columbia. I know she does not want/need a wedding coordinator ( I'm coordinating a wedding now for June 12th ), If she has any questions or need help with budgeting--feel free and give me a call.  Jean -- 443.453.6417
